Is That "St. Louis" Storage Facility Really Near St. Louis?

Here's something worth knowing before you search for boat or RV storage in St. Louis: not every facility that uses "St. Louis" in its name is actually near St. Louis. It's a marketing tactic — and one that can leave you committed to a location that's an hour or more from home.

Why This Happens

Calling yourself "St. Louis [anything]" puts you in front of the largest possible audience of searchers in the region. A facility sitting nearly 60 miles outside downtown St. Louis can legitimately call itself "St. Louis RV Storage" and show up in search results for people in Fenton or Ballwin who have no idea they're looking at a facility across the county line.

Communities on the outer edge of the metro follow the same pattern. They're not dishonest about where they're located — but the name creates an impression that doesn't match reality for most St. Louis-area residents.

How to Check Before You Commit

  1. Look up the actual street address before you do anything else. Don't trust the name alone.
  2. Enter it in Google Maps from your home address and see what the actual drive time is. A one-way trip of 45 minutes or more adds up fast over a season.
  3. Read the About page for language like "serving the greater St. Louis area" — that often signals the facility is further out than the name implies.

Where Big River Is Actually Located

Big River Boat & RV Storage has three locations, all genuinely within the St. Louis metro:

  • Eureka — 1600 S. Outer Road, off I-44. About 30 minutes from downtown St. Louis.
  • High Ridge — 2232 Gravois Road, close to I-270. Convenient to South County and Jefferson County.
  • Valley Park — 68 N. Elam Avenue, at I-44 & Hwy 141. One of the most central locations in St. Louis County.

All three are in or immediately adjacent to St. Louis County. None of them require a significant highway drive to reach from most St. Louis suburbs.

Why Distance Actually Matters

It's easy to underestimate how much a long storage drive affects your experience. If you're hauling a boat to the Meramec River every other weekend, a storage facility that's 15 minutes away versus 70 minutes away makes a real difference in how often you actually go. Proximity to home is one of the most underrated factors in picking a storage facility.

Call Big River at (636) 441-9888. Tell us where you live and we'll tell you honestly which of our three locations makes the most sense for your commute — and whether we have the unit type you need available right now.
